Wow, Owls! were a really really good post-hardcore/screamo band from Richmond, Virginia. They existed between 2003 and 2006. I think this was a very underrated band to say the least. They played typical emo and screamo music but made it their own. I don’t know how to describe this band. There’s something in their songwriting, in their melodies that makes me love them so much. Anyway, here’s what I got and I think that’s everything the band has ever put out:
“Mind Explosion” Demo Tape
In 2004 (?), Goembessa released Wow, Owls’ demo tape entitled Mind Explosion. It features 8 songs of which 3 then would appear on the band’s LP (see below) and one would appear on the split 7″. I didn’t know about the tape until not too long ago when I saw a guy on DeadFormat selling tapes, and I knew this would be my only chance in a long time to grab this. What’s really cool about this tape is that it doesn’t come in a jewel case but in a kind of fold-out cover. Included is a lyric sheet.
Pick Your Patterns 12″
This is the band’s only full-length and features 9 songs. The LP was put out by Perpetual Motion Machine in 2005. The packaging is nothing special, it’s a foldout cover as well and comes in a 10-page mini-booklet. There was only one pressing of this record on red w/ black splatter vinyl and limited to 525 copies.
Split 7″ with The Setup
In 2005, the band also released a split 7″ with The Setup via Perpetual Motion Machine and Life In A Box. Wow, Owls! deliver two songs, The Setup one song. The artwork for this split is kind of cool: A fold-out elephant. This press is on red vinyl and limited to 1225 copies. The band certainly loved the colour red and fold-out covers…
Pee Sout CDR
This CDR was released in 2006 and features the band’s 3 final recordings and the demo. Hand-numbered and silkscreened packaging to give this CDR a nice place. There’s nothing more to say here, only that I have 2 copies of this CDR and both were given for free in orders I made. This below is handnumbered 69 out of 100.
